What Does an Interior Architect Do?
In this article we will focus on interior architects in Boston and Miami. While the Interior Designer focuses on ways to decorate interior spaces, an Interior Architect designs and constructs that space. So, although you often work with an Interior Designer, the job of Interior Architects is very different. When Interior Architects create a design, they consider many factors, such as natural and artificial lighting. What time of day receives the most natural daylight? Which type of ceiling fixtures should you use? Load-bearing walls, safety and building codes, number of windows, doors, seats, tables, the heating and ventilation system all come into play as well. What do the users of the space need?
In addition, Interior Architects are charged with creating a space that serves a specific purpose, such as a relaxing atmosphere for a spa or a productive and positive vibe in an office. Interior Architects work on the inside of the building. Some interior architects specialize in one project type, such as hotels, casinos, offices, retail, residential, or institutional uses such as universities, hospitals and religious facilities. They also work as part of a project team that includes the Client/Owner’s Representative, multiple disciplines of Engineers, Contractors, and sometimes, even other Architects.
It requires a lot of communication to relate ideas while acknowledging those of others. Teamwork is pivotal. Take, for example, the task of designing the interiors of a religious structure. The Structural Engineers make sure it is structurally sound. The mechanical Engineers make the temperature comfortable. The Electrical Engineers make sure that the lighting and switching circuitry is done properly. The Interior Architects want to embellish the large space with a patterned floor, wood paneling on the walls, and other details such as gold leaf and specialty finishes. Interior Architects also select and specify lighting, flooring, walls and ceilings. If the users of a space can see it or use it, Interior Architects care about getting it right. Ask for a full-service interior architecture firm so that you can get soup to nuts services.
Interior Architects in Boston and Miami are highly efficient, and provide clients great service and a transparent professional process.
